J. Russell Peltz

Boxing Promoter

After promoting at various venues in Philadelphia for four years, including the well-known 7,000-seat Arena in West Philadelphia, Peltz was named Director of Boxing at the Spectrum in South Philadelphia. Peltz became one of the most successful local boxing promoters in the world during his tenure at the Spectrum, from 1973 until 1980. During this time he brought over 80 fights to the Spectrum and made it one of the top boxing venues in the country. Peltz is a member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame as well as the Pennsylvania, NJ, Atlantic City and Philadelphia Jewish Hall of Fame.
